Project Overview
We successfully completed the design, supply, and installation of a Translucent Stretch Ceiling with RGBW LED backlighting in the maternity department at American Hospital Dubai.
The objective of this project was to combine high-performance architectural lighting with an emotionally meaningful design concept suitable for a modern healthcare environment.
The integrated RGBW lighting system allows hospital staff to instantly adjust the ceiling color depending on the newborn’s gender:
• Blue for a baby boy
• Pink for a baby girl
• Any custom RGBW color when required
The lighting is operated via a remote-controlled RGBW system, enabling fast, intuitive, and flexible color management.
Structural Preparation
The existing gypsum ceiling recess was prepared to accommodate the translucent stretch ceiling system. Proper installation depth was ensured to achieve optimal light diffusion, eliminate shadow zones, and guarantee uniform illumination across the entire surface.
Accurate structural preparation is essential for achieving a seamless luminous ceiling effect.
RGBW LED Backlight Installation
A high-performance 24V RGBW LED backlighting system was installed inside the light box structure.
LED Technical Specifications:
• Power: 19.2W per meter
• Voltage: 24V DC
• LED layout spacing: 8 cm between LED rows
• Type: RGBW (Red, Green, Blue + dedicated White channel)
• Control system: Remote-controlled RGBW controller
The 8 cm LED spacing ensures:
• Perfectly uniform light distribution
• No visible LED dots or hot spots
• Smooth color blending
• Consistent brightness across the full ceiling surface
The use of 24V LED strips enhances system stability and significantly reduces voltage drop, which is critical for larger illuminated ceiling areas in commercial and medical facilities.
After completing the LED installation, the translucent stretch membrane was installed.
The membrane evenly diffuses RGBW light, creating a soft, glare-free luminous surface. The final result is a clean, hygienic, and visually adaptive ceiling solution ideal for maternity departments and healthcare environments in Dubai.
